Toronto receives some help regarding Nick Robertson via a trade this weekend completed by the Edmonton Oilers. While the Oilers continue to navigate around two offer sheets by the Blues for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, they continue to make other moves. This weekend they brought in Vasili Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks. With this, the Oilers seem to have opened up a lane for Toronto regarding Nick Robertson.

What the Oilers gave up for Podkolzin was a 2025 fourth round pick. Why this is relevant is because it puts a value on Robertson to be a least worth a third-round pick when it comes to trade negotiations. Podkolzin is originally a 10th round pick who spend most of the last two seasons with the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks. He tallied in 137 NHL games just 35 total points.

Looking at Robertson's performance since drafted in 2019 53rd overall, he has clearly outperformed Podkolzin. He played much of this last season with the Maple Leafs and in 56 games tallied 34 points, 17 of which were goals.

Robertson requested a trade from the Leafs back in June, so he does not have an intentions on signing a new contract with the team. GM Brad Treliving feels that Robertson had much potential with the departure of Todd Bertuzzi to crack in and stay in the top three lines. With training camp coming up the Leafs should have a little more opportunity to get a higher draft pick now seeing what other players seem to be drawing from other teams. The restricted free agent and the Leafs should have their answers to his future sooner than later.
