The Toronto Maple Leafs have struggled to find a consistent second-line center and this evening new reports have connected them to two new possible options.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have enjoyed some success so far this season and currently lead the Atlantic Division.

With their successful start to the season has still come some concern over the construction of the roster and in particular the second forward line.

For many seasons the Toronto Maple Leafs had a great one-two center combo with Auston Matthews and John Tavares.

This season the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to move John Tavares to the third line leaving a hole in the second-line center spot.

Throughout the season the Maple Leafs have tried several different players in that role including William Nylander and Max Domi.

Recently, Max Domi who had been playing on the second line for the Maple Leafs went down with an injury that has landed him on injured reserve.

With this injury, conversation has once again sparked over the Maple Leafs' need to make a move to acquire a true second-line center.

Within these conversations, the Maple Leafs have been connected to two potential options including a former Maple Leaf.

Maple Leafs connected to several forwards to fix their center depth issues

A new set of reports from Maple Leafs' source James Mirtle has connected the team to a trio of centers that could fit the Toronto Maple Leafs' needs.

He began by talking about former first-round pick Nick Bjugstad who currently plays for the Utah Hockey Club.

I think [Nick] Bjugstad is the most realistic for them to get. He might only cost you a second-round pick, is six-foot-six, and can score in front of the net.

While Nick Bjugstad is not the most exciting he fits within their limited salary cap space and would likely serve more as a true third-line center with John Tavares sliding back up in the lineup.

Next, a more exciting veteran name to keep in mind is New York Islander forward Brock Nelson.

According to James Mirtle a trade for Brock Nelson could be possible but would be expensive in more ways than one for the Maple Leafs.

I don't know if the Islanders will fall far enough out of the playoff race to trade him but he's a really good player. The trouble with him is that he makes 6 million and the acquisition cost will be sky-high.

Finally, James Mirtle connected the Toronto Maple Leafs to a familiar name former Leaf Ryan O'Reilly who the current regime still really loves according to sources.

I don't think the ROR thing is 100% impossible. The front office still loves him.

Overall the Toronto Maple Leafs seem to be aware of their need for a true center to play in the middle-six and a move could be on the horizon to land one of these big name players.
