The Toronto Maple Leafs have a great core of veterans, but in his latest interview, GM Brad Treliving made sure to hype up the future of the Maple Leafs.

This current Toronto Maple Leafs team is built to compete for a Stanley Cup in 2024/25, but to achieve that goal, they'll be relying heavily on some young names to take the next step at the NHL level. That was a major topic of discussion with General Manager Brad Treliving in a recent interview with the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, when he identified the young talents on the verge of a breakout campaign.

"I think Bobby McMann. He's such a strong fast player. Hard on the puck. Last year was a coming out party for him. Even with Auston and Willy hurt in the playoffs last year, not having Bobby hurt us.

Matthew Knies we forget he was just a rookie last season. He's a big man. He was 237 at some point last season. He's a big strong guy that can skate. Pontus Holmberg, I really think there's a lot of upside with this guy. Big, strong, can play up the middle. He's one of those strong sturdy Swedes.

Obviously Easton Cowan and Grebenkin. Minten is another guy we've got some young guys pushing underneath."

If it wasn't already clear from his comments, Treliving is thrilled with the young group that Toronto have put together, and with McMann and Knies both expected to skate in the Maple Leafs top-six, it's clear that everyone on the coaching staff is high on them too.

Unsurprisingly, it was McMann that he mentioned first following a campaign of 15 goals in his first full NHL season, with 24 points on the year as he showed signs of being an elite forward in the league. The biggest name to keep an eye on however is Knies, who is expected to partner Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner in 2024/25, and if he can use his big frame to make an impact at both ends of the ice, the team may have one of the best lines in hockey.

Beyond that, Treliving notes that Pontus Holmberg, Fraser Minten, Easton Cowan and Nikita Grebenkin are all names to watch too, showing just how bright a future this Maple Leafs team have.
