In a new interview to begin Toronto Maple Leafs training camp, Maple Leafs forward William Nylander spoke and took a shot at his former head coach, Sheldon Keefe. The Toronto Maple Leafs will be under new management when they go into game one of the 2024-25 NHL season. The team hired Craig Berube this summer to replace their former head coach Sheldon Keefe. The move was made after the Maple Leafs struggled to find success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Heading into the 2024-25 season the biggest change that has been made to the lineup by Craig Berube is moving superstar forward William Nylander to center. To begin training camp he is centering a line between Max Domi and Calle Jarnkrok. After his first practice at center, William Nylander spoke to the media and during his availability torched his former head coach while praising his new one.
William Nylander torches Sheldon Keefe for not putting him at center
In a press conference after practice William Nylander was asked about the move to center. He was asked why the move was not made in previous seasons if it is something William Nylander has wanted. I don't know,» a smiling Nylander replied. I might have to ask my old coach about that. As for the plan under Craig Berube, William Nylander has said that the two have spoken and are committed to letting William Nylander play consistently at center to begin the season. I'm excited, I told Chief that the most important thing is I can't just play one game if you want to try centre. We agree on that and hopefully it goes well.

Craig Berube also spoke about the move. He confirmed that William Nylander will get an extended look at center. He also said that William Nylander will need to focus on the defensive side of the game and not just create through the middle. This is something that as a winger William Nylander is not as accustomed to doing. We have to give him opportunity and time, Berube cautioned. We'll see him in an exhibition game down the road, play a few games, see how he feels. But we'll also be watching. You're playing in your own end down low, breakouts, working to get back quick to help the defense it's the details that take more time. When the season began, many thought Max Domi would be the player to get an opportunity to play center. Instead, it will be William Nylander. With John Tavares getting older the Toronto Maple Leafs need to find a way to lessen responsibility on him. Craig Berube and company are hoping William Nylander is the solution to that problem.
