Nikita Zadorov isn't happy one bit with how his whole situation played out with the Vancouver Canucks, and he had some parting shots for them today.

It seems the breakup between Nikita Zadorov and the Vancouver Canucks wasn't quite as cut and dry as it all appeared on the surface. The defenseman recently spoke about his contract negotiations with the team on the 'What Chaos!' podcast with Pete Blackburn and DJ Bean. His account shines a light on the behind-the-scenes discussion that ultimately led to his exit from Vancouver.

«We wanted to stay at the startwe tried to sort it out but there's points in negotiations when you check boxes and then couple things didn't go the way we wanted to. Kind of felt a little bit disrespectful too. It didn't work out.»

- Nikita Zadorov

Throughout the podcast, Zadorov indicated his mind wasn't cemented very long before pulling the trigger and committing elsewhere. The towering 6'6" Russian defender inked a hefty six-year, $30 million contract with the Boston Bruins. Coincidentally, he was not the only Canuck to jump to Boston as teammate and fellow free agent Elias Lindholm jumped to the Bruins, making for one of the more significant roster changes made thus far between the two clubs.

Zadorov added that he and Lindholm had loosely talked about signing with the Bruins on a visit to Boston when the players were still in Vancouver. Those discussions gradually became more serious as the offseason drew near, each player drawn to the potential of playing in a new system and going on a Cup chase with a team like the Bruins.

While brief, Zadorov's time in Vancouver was certainly memorable. Acquired by the Canucks early last season, he quickly became known as a fan favorite with his hard-hitting style and offensive contributions shining bright during an exciting playoff run. Zadorov's standout postseason performance included four goals and eight points over 13 games, boosting his popularity in Vancouver and making him a hot commodity in free agency.

It would seem personal and professional reasons drove Zadorov's decision to leave Vancouver. His post-season elite play level likely had something to do with Boston's interest, and his close relationship with Lindholm undoubtedly made things a bit easier. Now, he is about to start the next chapter in his career with the Bruins, trying to do even more on a team aspiring for a championship.
