Rick Tocchet Takes A Brutal Shot At An Official After Terrible Call vs. the Dallas Stars

Last night the Vancouver Canucks faced off against the Dallas Stars and head coach of the Canucks Rick Tocchet sent a brutal chirp in the direction of the referees.

During last night's game against the Stars, Rick Tocchet and the Canucks faced a lot of frustration as the Dallas Stars utterly dominated the Canucks in all phases of the game.

The game from the start seemed to not be going the right way as the Canucks were handed a pair of penalties late in the first period putting the Stars on the man advantage.

The call made by the referee set Tocchet off and he went on a rampage insulting the referee and calling his competence into question.

Tocchet called out the referee for the awful call and berated him revealing that constant terrible calls are why the referee isn't allowed to work Stanley Cup Playoff games.

After the game, Tocchet was asked about the incident between himself and the referee and his thoughts now that he had calmed down.

Tocchet admitted that he overreacted and eventually confirmed that he apologized to the referee for his comments with the referee issuing an apology as well.

With the situation resolved, it does seem that the referee made the wrong call and knew that he screwed up but Tocchet's reaction and outburst were not acceptable either.

Now, Tocchet just has to hope that Gary Bettman and the league office do not have a problem with his comments towards the referees or he could face a hefty fine like has happened to so many other players and coaches in the past.

As the Stanley Cup Playoffs approach it will be interesting to see if the referee involved in this incident does end up officiating any playoff games or if Tocchet while out of line was ultimately correct about the referee's skill level.
