A new report tonight has come in confirming that the Vancouver Canucks were on the verge of a blockbuster trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Earlier today reports revealed that the Vancouver Canucks failed to trade Brock Boeser due to their asking price.

While Boeser is a good player for the Canucks he is on an expiring contract and the team's interested did not want to take on the risk of losing him for nothing while giving up significant assets.

Tonight a new report from Patrick Johnston of The Province has revealed that despite the high price associated with Boeser they were almost able to send him to the Carolina Hurricanes in a major deal.

Vancouver Canucks Nearly Traded Brock Boeser To The Carolina Hurricanes

According to Johnston's sources, the Canucks and Hurricanes had discussions throughout the day on a potential deal.

The trade would send Boeser to Carolina with Jesperi Kotkaniemi and a 1st round pick coming back as the framework of the deal.

Carolina, a source said, had been trying to move Jesperi Kotkaniemi for some time. And obviously adding a centre like Logan Stankoven made Kotkaniemi even more tradable. We know he's been offered to Vancouver before and Vancouver does need to improve its centre depth after the departure of J.T. Miller. He was involved in this offer, as was a first-round pick.

However, according to Johnston things went wrong when the Carolina Hurricanes wanted to add a Canucks prospect to the deal at which point Patrik Allvin shut down talks and moved on to other options.

The hang up it would seem may have come down to a prospect. Carolina was after one of Vancouver's, even though Canucks have a mountain of their own. And whoever it was, it seems like Vancouver didn't want to part with him.

With talks shut down by Allvin and the Canucks a trade involving Boeser ended up not materializing and now they could end up losing him for nothing in the offseason.

If the Canucks end up losing Boeser for nothing and do not make a deep playoff run then Allvin has to be held accountable for this blundered trade at the deadline.
