The Vancouver Canucks don't have healthy goaltenders heading into the new season, and their latest contract offer to UFA goalie Kevin Lankinen was rejected.

The Vancouver Canucks go into the 2024-2025 season with some pretty big question marks surrounding their goaltending situation. Thatcher Demko remains hindered by a nagging knee injury, while Arturs Silovs also has a similar type of injury, but his is apparently less serious. With both of these netminders possibly on the shelf, and options not looking too great, the team has been eyeing free agent Kevin Lankinen, but those talks aren't going particularly well. After wrapping up last season with an 11-6-0 record, and a .908 save percentage, Lankinen is asking for more than a million dollars, which is above Vancouver's pay grade.

While he's not the perfect long-term solution for Thatcher Demko or Arturs Silovs, he could at least be a decent short-term fix. Still, unless they can figure out the money part of it, with the way things are going, it's starting to feel like neither side will blink, and this whole negotiation is a bit of a dead end. Is either side ready to simply walk away before anything gets finalized?

The Canucks got by last season with Demko and Silovs playing some of the best hockey in the league. Demko played 51 games, going 35-14-2 while sporting a 2.45 GAA and a .918 save percentage. Silovs only appeared in four regular-season games but went 3-0-1. During the playoffs, the 23-year-old played 10 games, going 5-5 with a 2.91 GAA and a .898 save percentage. Without being able to get those two back in healthy order soon, the Canucks could be in for a rough start.
