The bad news just keeps on getting worse, as the Washington Capitals have revealed that Alex Ovechkin is going to be out week-to-week with the injury he suffered.

In Richmond, B.C., Dr. Harjas Grewal, a family medicine doctor and rabid hockey fan, has gained a following on Twitter for prescient observations on NHL injuries.

His initial take on the severity of Alex Ovechkin's latest injury seems to have proven correct, with the Washington Capitals confirming their top scorer will be out on a week-to-week basis.

Dr. Grewal revealed to the hockey world that the knee-on-knee hit between Ovechkin and Jack McBain in Monday's 6-2 win over Utah "looked pretty serious."

Suddenly, it's much less likely that he'll catch Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goal-scoring record this year.

At the time of his injury, Ovechkin was on pace to beat Gretzky's hallowed 894-goal total by season's end.

And this may be the biggest snag in what was a sure movement to history by Ovechkin. The 39-year-old, who lit the lamp three times against the Vegas Golden Knights just a night before, scoring twice against Utah before leaving the ice, has 868 career goals, 27 fewer than Gretzky's record.

As if his feat seemed imminent, now it does look very, very uncertain, turning out quite a challenge toward his record-breaking goal.
