One of the most hyped prospects in the Toronto Maple Leafs' system gets another chance to prove himself at the NHL level.
The Toronto Maple Leafs brought up 20-year-old Fraser Minten to the big club on Tuesday after putting forward David Kampf on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 16 with a lower-body injury.
That move aligns with the Leafs managing star center Auston Matthews' injury absence, which could afford Minten a larger role.
Minten has started the current season with the AHL's Toronto Marlies well, scoring two goals and two assists in five games so far.
It's a great comeback to active performance, considering that he suffered a high-ankle sprain in a Prospect Showdown game against Montreal earlier this year when he was hit by David Reinbacher.
After rehabbing the injury, he started skating again with the Leafs' development staff in October.
The Vancouver native, selected 38th overall in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft, did get a taste of the big leagues last season, suiting up for four games with the Maple Leafs before returning to the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL.
There, he scored an impressive 19 goals and 38 points in 36 regular season games, adding another eight goals and 14 points in 16 playoff contests.
He also played for Canada at the World Junior Championship and recorded a goal and three points in five games.
Meanwhile, Kampf, with three assists in 18 games this season, also remains out as the Leafs continue to manage this in-season injury scenario.
