Former offer-sheeted Oiler Philip Broberg suffered a gruesome-looking injury by Mitch Marner of the Maple Leafs in last night's Blues game and had to be helped off.

It was one intense moment in the game on Saturday that involved St. Louis Blues' Philip Broberg being cast off the ice following a collision with Toronto Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner. The incident, which came in the second period, had the fans and his teammates worried as Broberg clutched his right leg visibly in pain. Medical personnel were immediate in their response, escorting him off, which showed the seriousness of the injury.

The Blues announced shortly after the collision that Broberg would not return for the remainder of the game. It came as a blow to a team that has been hit by a spate of injuries in this early part of the season. The absence of Broberg, a consistent performer and key player, adds more worry to the team's defensive line given his importance on the second pairing.

St. Louis Blues head coach Drew Bannister did address the injury situation in a post-game press conference, where he also spoke about other injuries to key players. He even mentioned the recent six-week loss of forward Robert Thomas due to his broken ankle. Despite these setbacks, Bannister believes his team has responded pretty well thus far. He chalked up this recent wave of injuries to "the ebbs and flows of a year.". Following the game, Dr. Harjas Grewal provided an update on what he believes Broberg is suffering from and how long he expects the Blues player to be out.

That will leave the Blues with a hole in their lineup, as the 23-year-old defenseman has been a crucial contributor since arriving via an offer sheet from the Edmonton Oilers this summer. Averaging more than 20 minutes of ice time per game and notching nine points in his first 11, Broberg has quickly become an integral part of the Blues lineup. His injury opens up questions about how the Blues will juggle their rotational defence moving forward.

With such a reality, the Blues would have to dig deep into depth and adaptability to keep the momentum going. While injuries are the ultimate test for any team, the performance of the team in the early season had shown great promise, so it is likely that they would carry on with determination and hard work.
