A new 30-goal scorer with the Montreal Canadiens? That's what a journalist from Colorado thinks about Alex Newhook

Last summer, Kent Hughes acquired Kirby Dach, in a two-step trade that also sent Alexander Romanov to the Islanders. A one-way deal for the CH, if you ask me.

For months, the Habs' GM had made no secret of the fact that he would try to repeat this kind of experiment and acquire another young talent at little cost. So, just before the 2023 draft, he acquired Alex Newhook for two draft picks.

Newhook scored two goals in his first game, but the sample is far too small to get an idea of his production. However, according to the journalist who covers the Avalanche's activities, Drew Livingstone, it's clear that Colorado will regret this transaction.

"Newhook will make the Avalanche regret trading him, as he'll have a 30-goal season in 2023-2024.

Newhook scored his second goal of the game against the Leafs. He's going to have fun, score 30 goals and really make the Avalanche regret the trade."

When you looked at the trio of Newhook, Dach and Slafkovsky in the first game, they were having fun and could express themselves on the ice. In fact, they were the best trio of the two teams at 5-on-5. Even Juraj Slafkovsky was unrecognizable.
