Alexis Lafrenière signed a contract extension just a few weeks ago and started training camp on the first line, as well as getting some ice time on the power play.

However, nothing is working for him, and the honeymoon with his new coach, Peter Laviolette, is already over before the season has even begun. Or so says Brennan Klak.

"I've been following Alexis Lafrenière's training camp closely - and frankly, it already looks like Peter Laviolette doesn't quite know what to do with him. (enthusiasm already extinguished)

I don't like where this is going for Lafrenière - I don't think he's a bad player, but disappointing in terms of his draft position - will he be traded?"

Klak is an unbiased NHL journalist who never makes waves. In short, he explains things as they are, never in a bid for attention.

It looks like the only thing that will whip Laffy is a change of team. We all know his immense talent, but he's simply not able to express himself to his heart's content on the Bettman circuit. He's missing an ingredient for the cake to rise.

Is that ingredient Martin St-Louis? We know how good the CH coach is with youngsters, and that he's able to get the best out of them, despite his lack of coaching experience.

What's more, several CH members, including Jeff Gorton and Nick Bobrov, have solid contacts in New York. In short, it would probably cost the Habs a lot of money to get him, but it could be worth it if they feel they have the right personnel in place to help Lafrenière become a star.
