Amidst all the injuries, we tend to forget that forward Paul Byron was one of the many Habs players who were sidelined this season.

In fact, like Carey Price, he missed the entire 2022-2023 campaign.

In the final year of his contract with the Tricolore, Byron has not confirmed his permanent retirement, despite the fact that his body simply cannot keep up with professional hockey.

His career is definitely coming to an end, because even if the CH's little winger wants to continue playing, after missing a full season and celebrating his 34th birthday soon, the chances of him getting a new contract as a player are totally null.

On the other hand, Byron could already be on the verge of signing a new deal with the Habs, but in a brand new role.

During the last few games of the season, he was not in the press box with the other injured players, but rather in the management box with Jeff Gorton, among others.

Also, during his end of season press conference, number 41 admitted that he had expressed interest to his organization to stay with the team, but under a new mandate.

Byron went even further by mentioning that he would like to take on player development duties, similar to what former defenseman Francis Bouillon is currently doing with the Tricolore.

Clearly, a player like him, a late draft pick who has faced a lot of adversity to make his way in the NHL, and who has gone through the draft to get his career off the ground, could be an asset to the development of the organization's young players.

In addition, Byron has always had a reputation for being a great leader in the dressing room, so there is no doubt that he could become a solid mentor for them.
