This afternoon a new interview with Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman has surfaced where he speaks about the potential of trading away Jeff Skinner. Earlier this month a report revealed that the Edmonton Oilers were unsure if they would be able to convince Jeff Skinner to waive his no-trade clause. With Skinner having such power over the situation the Oilers are somewhat at the mercy of the player when it comes to the decision to trade him or not. Throughout the season Skinner has been adamant that he is happy staying in Edmonton for a playoff run even if it is in a reduced role compared to what he is used to. Now a new interview between The Athletic and Bowman has further cemented Skinner's fate with the team.
Stan Bowman Confirms The Edmonton Oilers Plans With Jeff Skinner
During the interview, Bowman was directly asked about the potential of trading away Skinner at the trade deadline for a piece that might fit better with their current team. Bowman was honest and direct admitting that he does not plan to ask Skinner to waive his no-trade clause but things ultimately could change if the right deal comes along. I don't envision that being the case. He's shown a real willingness to work through things with our group, and I commend him on that. He's had a really great attitude the entire time I suppose things can always change, but that's not the focus right now for Jeff. This seems to confirm that Skinner wants to be an Oiler and break his playoff drought that has lasted his entire career by any means necessary. The only trade that could make sense for the Oilers and Skinner is sending him to another guaranteed playoff team but there likely aren't many teams lining up to trade for a player like Skinner. As the deadline approaches there would need to be an apparent major shift for Bowman and the Oilers to part with Skinner.
