It's quite a story, that of Arber Xhekaj. Ignored in the draft by every team on the Bettman circuit, there was little hope for him to play professional field hockey in North America. However, the former Canadiens administration saw something in Xhekaj and invited him to the 2021 camp. We know what happened next, as the giant-sized defenseman is now under contract with the Canadiens. Marc Bergevin and his team had the flair to invite him to the camp, but also to sign him quickly. According to Elliotte Friedman, several teams are currently biting their fingers when they think about Xhekaj: « Friedman says several teams have expressed big regrets about not scouting Xhekaj first. » Friedman then chimed in with this: « Montreal seems to have made a real steal here with Xhekaj. There are a lot of formations that confirmed to me today that they would really like him. They're like, We wish we had found him first. We might regret missing him. - Elliotte Friedman

You have to admit that Xhekaj has been muddling the waters since the beginning of camp. We had heard great things about him, but we never thought he would be this close to the NHL.
