The Colorado Avalanche recently revealed that they nearly secured a future Hall of Famer at last year's trade deadline.

A Close Call

During the trade deadline of 2022, rumors swirled about Claude Giroux possibly joining the Colorado Avalanche. Although no deal came to fruition and Giroux was eventually traded to the Panthers, it appears that Colorado was quite close to sealing the deal.

As part of a charity event, the Avalanche have been auctioning off a range of old jerseys, including two intriguing Claude Giroux jerseys.

The Road Not Taken

With more than 1,100 NHL games under his belt, Giroux has amassed over 1,000 points, solidifying his status as a future Hall of Famer and a Flyers icon. Yet, a Stanley Cup win eludes him.

Had the trade to the Avalanche gone through instead of to the Panthers, Giroux would likely have a Stanley Cup to his name by now.

The Panthers traded Owen Tippett and a 2024 first-round pick to get Giroux. Last year, Tippett scored 27 goals for the Flyers, making a name for himself as a great goal scorer. Had the trade not occurred, Tippett could have been contributing his offensive talents to the Panthers, potentially during their Stanley Cup finals match against the Golden Knights.
