The NHL Draft can be a gamble. Sometimes a team comes out with an absolute stud. Sometimes a player can also turn into a dud. Today one former top prospect and draft pick was released.
Arizona Coyotes Release Former Top Prospect
The Arizona Coyotes slimmed down their roster today. This comes as part of the natural progression of training camp into the regular season. Today meant the end of the line for a former top-5 pick. As part of the cuts, Arizona released Olli Juolevi from his Player Tryout Contract (PTO). The Coyotes announced today that the following players have been released from their PTO agreements: Olli Juolevi (PTO) Austin Strand (PTO) Ryan Dzingel (PTO) Patrick Harper (PTO)

Juolevi was the 5th overall pick in 2016 by the Vancouver Canucks being selected ahead of players like Matthew Tkachuk, Clayton Keller, and Mikhail Sergachev. He struggled to make an impact with the Canucks only playing 23 games in the NHL with them. Since then he has bounced around from the Florida Panthers to the Detroit Red Wings and now was trying to catch on in Arizona. Unfortunately for him, his stay in the desert was not a long one. Now Juolevi will likely have 2 options either he can try and find an AHL team willing to take a shot on him or he can head overseas and try to play professionally closer to home. Either way, it seems as though his time in the NHL has come to an end for the moment. As Read On - Markerzone - BREAKING: Former Top Five Pick Blows His Final Chance In The NHL
