The Toronto Maple Leafs placed Martin Jones on waivers yesterday. With that transaction, many were expecting him to be claimed. Today we finally got confirmation of his future. <h2>We Now Know Jones' NHL Future</h2> NHL waivers from yesterday were processed today at 2 p.m. eastern time. With this came 4 players claimed by a new NHL franchise. Luckily for the Toronto Maple Leafs Martin Jones was not one of those 4 players. <q>Martin Jones clears waivers and will likely head to the #Marlies (at least on paper). For the Maple Leafs, this is a fantastic scenario. They can keep Jones as a safety net behind Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll. Ilya Samsonov has struggled with consistency in the past before coming to Toronto so the Maple Leafs will likely be happy to have Jones as a contingency plan if this happens again. Joseph Woll also has limited experience playing in the NHL and could struggle with a larger sample size. The Maple Leafs will have some of the most veteran depth of any NHL team in goal heading into the upcoming season. This could be a major advantage for them as the season wears on.
