The NHL announced a league-wide ban on pride tape earlier this week. The move has been widely criticized by fans, media outlets, and players alike. The latest to voice his concerns is a Bruin legend.
Marchand Speaks Against Pride Tape Ban
When asked about the pride tape ban ahead of Wednesday's season opener, Brad Marchand had a lot to say. To be pushed to do something you don't want to do or to be banned from [using] something you believe in, there's gotta be a line where we can all have our beliefs & support each other. It's unfortunate we can't find common ground. Here, Marchand is referencing both the pride tape ban and the pride jersey situation that unfolded last year, leading the league to crack down on pride night festivities. He is suggesting that players should not have to wear the pride jerseys if they do not want to, but players should also be allowed to use pride tape. It is worth noting that players, in fact, were not forced to wear the pride jerseys as several players refused to do so and faced no disciplinary action for doing so. It would be nice where with certain nights across the league where we could all support certain things, and just to support the people. It's tough when you can't win either way. I understand both sides of it, but it's unfortunate we can't all get along on some of these topics This part of Marchand's statement is a bit more vague, but it is clear that his intentions are good as he just wants everyone to get along.
