The Habs did something unusual this season, starting with three goalies in their ranks. It was widely believed that Cayden Primeau would be waived and sent to Laval, but rumour had it that he would be claimed.

It was also rumoured that the young goaltender's good side had forced the staff to keep him. We now have the facts, thanks to an interview conducted by Alexandre Gascon :

"According to Kent Hughes' interview with Alexandre Gascon, Cayden Primeau was likely to be claimed by a team that inquired about him for a trade, forcing the Canadiens to include 3 goaltenders in its line-up.

A good decision, or was it time to part with Primeau?"

So now it's confirmed, Primeau's on the market and Kent Hughes has decided to keep him around to make a return, not just let him go for nothing. We know that at least one team is interested in the young goalie.

You'd think Jake Allen or Samuel Montembeault would have been surpassed by Primeau, but that's not the case. Allen is already confirmed as the starter for tonight's season opener, while Monty was first notified when Casey DeSmith was acquired that he was in Montreal to stay.
