When it comes to physical strength in NHL players, you'd be hard pressed to think that Brendan Gallagher might be part of the discussion. The Sportsnet reporter assigned to cover the Montreal Canadiens, Eric Engels, wrote a rather interesting article on the subject. We've known for several years now that Gally and Milan Lucic are good friends, even working out together in the summer. The big Flames forward is seen as one of the strongest guys in the NHL, but he gets beat by the Canadiens number 11 in the gym. I'll max out the deadlift at four or five plates, but Gally puts on quite a bit more. A lot of people just don't realize how strong he is. It's pretty amazing. And yeah, it's crazy to see him lift that much. - Milan Lucic For Gallagher, lifting more than 550 lbs in the deadlift is nothing impressive. He mentions that it's normal since he has a lower centre of gravity and that this weight would be too heavy for a 6'3 man like Lucic. According to a private trainer, Gallagher is telling the truth, but it is still very impressive: That would be a ton for a man Lucic's size. That would be a lot for a professional deadlifter, says Anthony Manelli of U.N.I. Training in Pointe-Saint-Charles, Montreal. I know he's a professional athlete, but that's just ridiculous.

Gallagher had been mentioning it for some time. Having a full summer to train for the upcoming season was going to help him come back stronger. We saw the benefits of his summer in training camp and hopefully the injuries will let him go this year.
