The Boston Bruins have just received terrible news regarding the status of Milan Lucic's injury, and how his recovery is progressing.

Lucic Behind Anticipated Timeline For Return From Ankle Injury

Boston Bruins Head Coach Jim Montgomery delivered some unfortunate news yesterday regarding the status of veteran Milan Lucic and his potential return from his ankle injury. Unfortunately for Bruins fans, the news was bleak, and Lucic is behind his original timeline for return.

"Looch is not going as quick as we expected, so he's maybe a week behind where we expected, but it's not dramatic."

Lucic has been out with his ankle injury since October 21, when he sustained the injury against the LA Kings.

Bruins Not in Desperate Need of Lucic's Help

The Bruins are set out to have another great season, as they currently sit atop the NHL standings at 12-1-2. Since they are so red-hot, it doesn't make much sense to rush Lucic back and risk an injury down the line when it really starts to matter.

Lucic has tallied 2 assists in the 4 games he has played so far this season. The physical forward is most noted for his contributions to the 2010-11 Stanley Cup victory, where he finished the season with 30 goals and 32 assists, the best of his career, however, he has had a long and emotional tenure with the Bruins throughout his NHL career.

"It's a special time in your life, those years that I spent here, so to be able to come back, that is so special to me. It's good to have emotion and show emotion." -- Milan Lucic on his emotional pregame ovation from the #NHLBruins faithful
