The Calgary Flames have without a doubt been one of the most dysfunctional teams in the NHL in recent years. Now general manager Chris Conroy has even more work cut out for him as his number one goaltender left practice early with an injury.

Markstrom Leaves Practice Early With Bloody Hand

The Flames have somehow managed to climb back into the playoff race after a disastrous start. However, they have now been hit with another unlucky setback. Starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom left practice early in an unusual scene as Chris Conroy followed the netminder into the locker room.

Apparently, he injured his hand when a puck hit the unprotected inside part of his blocker. His hand was bleeding as he came off the ice in a hurry.

Opportunity For Dustin Wolf?

This could be the chance AHL goaltender Dustin Wolf has been waiting for. The 22-year-old has been one of the best goaltenders in the AHL in recent years. His personal list of achievements is already quite long as he has been given several awards for his performances in the WHL and AHL. NHL insider Kevin Weekes believes that the team may call him up at least as a temporary replacement for Markstrom.

The Flames could also explore trade options, but the team plays their next game tomorrow. It is unlikely that they will be able to make a move on such short notice. In the meantime though, Dan Vladar is expected to take the reigns as the number one goaltender.

As seen on Flames could be forced into making goaltending move
