Daniel Brière is single-handedly changing the face of the Flyers franchise. And rightly so, since the team has been going nowhere for several years. He's made some good trades and been bold at the draft, but he's also made mistakes. While we don't yet know the outcome of Matvei Michkov's selection, we certainly know the value of center Scott Laughton. Laughton had the best season of his career last year, with 43 points in 78 games. At 29 years of age, we suspect that this production could be his peak, or very close to it. We've just learned that the Blues made a gigantic offer for Laughton, which Brière turned down. Brière reportedly said no to the St. Louis Blues in a trade for forward Scott Laughton, which would have netted a 2023 first-round pick, 25th or 29th overall, plus a 2024 second-round pick. Wow. - Frank Seravalli A 1st-round and 2nd-round pick for a 43-point player... you read that right. We're not privy to the secrets of the gods, but this proposition won't happen twice, and Brière clearly missed the boat. If Brière ever manages to get more for Laughton, we'll be the first to cry genius.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) reported on The DFO Rundown podcast today that Daniel Briere has already turned down a haul for Scott Laughton:

25th or 29th overall pick, future 2nd round pick

St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong.
