With a top-heavy roster led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the Edmonton Oilers are expected to be a major contender in 2023-24, but through five games, this team has struggled in seemingly every way possible.

Unhappy veteran

While their two stars have been solid, beyond their production, the team has seen little in the way of what we saw from them a season ago, especially from top line winger Evander Kane.

That became evident in their latest loss to the Winnipeg Jets, and during the game, Kane called out his Head Coach Jay Woodcroft in surprising fashion.

Didn't play much in the first period so I thought, might as well get into a fight and take 7 or 8 minutes in the box.

Big stretch upcoming

With other teams in the West off to red-hot starts, the Oilers will need to turn it around quickly, Kane included, as he has just one point through the teams first five games, with 0 goals.

Given what's expected of him, this latest move from Woodcroft was done in order to motivate the veteran winger, but unfortunately, it may have the opposite effect, and however this plays out could effect the entire 2023-24 season of Edmonton.

As Read on Hockey Feed - Evander Kane publicly calls out Jay Woodcroft during the game.
