Calgary had a massive offseason. The biggest move came when the team fired long-time coach Darryl Sutter, replacing him with Ryan Huska. However, things have not gone as planned as the team is off to a very slow start.

Flames Star Players Underperforming

Calgary's highest paid players, Nazem Kadri and Jonathan Huderdeau have both been off to awful starts and they appear as though they are not trying. During their last game, Kadri made a lazy backhand pass on the powerplay that was easily picked of by St. Louis's Kasperi Kapanen, who went down the ice and scored a short-handed goal.

Kadri and Huberdeau ended the night with a -2 rating each, adding to their league-leading -10 and -9 ratings on the season.

Flames Address The Media

Nikita Zadorov, Flames defenseman was so embarrassed by the team's performance, he felt the need to apologize to the fans after the game.

"I just want to apologize to our fans. We're playing like s*** right now, so it's tough to watch. Just embarrassing in front of our fans tonight, for sure."

When asked about the performance of his best players, head coach Ryan Huska had a dramatic response, calling out his players and warning the fans that things might not improve.

"If you're expecting those two guys to win games for us it's not going to happen, we're going to be waiting for that for a long period of time."

Kadri and Huberdeau are both signed long-term and both carry large cap hits. If the Flames are to have any success in the coming years, they will need these two players to carry their weight. So far this season, they have not lived up to expectations.

The Flames have their next game on Saturday when they take on the struggling and McDavidless Oilers in the Heritage Classic. If they are unable to get a win under those circumstances, it will be time to sound the alarm in Calgary.
