With the Maple Leafs officially searching for a new general manager, names of potential candidates are coming out. It was announced earlier today that Brad Treliving, GM for the Calgary Flames, is considered a solid contender for the job. However, his contract in Calgary doesn't end until June 30th, and the Flames organization has announced that they wouldn't let him find another job before that date. Now, it looks like negotiations can happen as the Flames have reportedly changed their minds. He's now allowed to talk with the Leafs if he wants to. But there's a catch.
Flames Intervene in Treliving's Talks to Become Leafs' GM
As reported by Eric Francis, if the Leafs hire Treliving, he won't be able to participate in any of the work ahead of the draft. Brad Treliving has permission to talk to the Maple Leafs about their vacant GM post, but it's with the understanding he cannot participate in any discussions about the draft or amateur scouting until after the draft. Despite reports to the contrary, he has had the same permission to talk to Pittsburgh. It's perfectly understandable, given the Penguins pick 14th and the Flames pick 16th. His contract with the Flames goes until June 30. If the Leafs want to hire a GM for the draft, they'll have to rely on someone else. Do you think Treliving will work for the Leafs?
