Since Pierre Dorion's dismissal by the Ottawa Senators, the rumour mill has been in overdrive, with several names pointed to his replacement.

One of the most plausible names for the Senators' new general manager is Peter Chiarelli. He is currently vice-president of field hockey operations for the St. Louis Blues.

Chiarelli was raised in the Ottawa area. He has a long track record as a manager in the National Hockey League.

After a successful run in Boston, where he helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup in 2011 before reaching the final again in 2013, it was more difficult after he left Boston in 2015.

Chiarelli's stint as Oilers boss has been far less convincing. He does, however, have the baggage to help the Senators bring some credibility to the 2nd tier.

The hockey man has already worked for the Sens in the early 2000s as assistant general manager. This would be a return to his roots for Chiarelli.
