Hockey has always been an unforgiving and brutal game and with that comes injuries. Some are luckier than others with their health but anyone who has played hockey has experienced some injury. For former first-round pick Sven Baertschi injuries played a significant part in his professional hockey story. <h2> Baertschi Drafted By Calgary</h2> Baertschi was drafted by the Calgary Flames 13th overall in 2011. He played his draft year in the WHL with the Portland Winterhawks. In the 2011-12 season, Baertschi was given a five-game trial with the Flames before being returned to the WHL. He would go on to spend three and a half years in Calgary fighting for a full-time roster spot. <h2>Shipped Off To Vancouver</h2> During the 2014-15 season, Baertschi was moved to Calgary for a second-round pick that would eventually become Rasmus Andersson. He got off to a hot start in Vancouver putting up two points in three NHL games and 15 in 15 AHL games. Baertschi looked to be on his way to a career revival in Vancouver when injuries would strike in 2018-19.
