The Montreal Canadiens will have some important decisions to make over the summer, many of which involve goaltending.

There are several questions that remain about the organization's goaltenders.

1. Whether Samuel Montembeault can handle the job of number one for a full season.

2. We need to evaluate if Jake Allen can stay healthy to back up the Quebecer and be more consistent in his performances.

3. Finally, we must have a plan for Cayden Primeau, who is only 23 years old and will have to go through the waivers early next year if he is to return to Laval.

The answer to a few questions could be found on the free agent market, as there will be a large group of goaltenders this year.

There are five experienced goaltenders who could be very good complements to Montembeault, and who should be free to sign wherever they want.

Frederik Andersen

He's 33 years old, 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, and is maintaining a .915 career NHL efficiency rate, which is pretty solid. He has won 21 of his 31 starts this season with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Tristan Jarry

He's a 27-year-old goalie who's been up and down in his career so far. He was supposed to be the Pittsburgh Penguins' goalie of the future, having tased Matt Murray from the No. 1 spot in recent years, but has struggled to remain consistent due in part to several injuries. Nonetheless, he has a .914 career save percentage in the NHL, and .910 this season in Pittsburgh.

Joonas Korpisalo

He is without a doubt the goalie coming onto the market with the best efficiency. The change of scenery from Columbus to Los Angeles has done him the world of good. He's very agile, he's 6 feet 3 inches tall, and he's only 28 years old. Since joining the Kings, he has been dominant with a .921 efficiency rating and 2.13 GAA.

Mackenzie Blackwood

He is the goalie with the most potential of the group. He is only 26 years old, has an impressive 6-foot-4, 225-pound frame. He was once seen as a future star in NHL nets, but was never able to fully establish himself as a true trusted number one. Before dealing with numerous injuries, we were talking about a 21-year-old goaltender who stood near the .920 mark in the NHL behind a very average team.

Semyon Varlamov

We finish with a veteran in the image of Allen, but one who is performing quite a bit more solidly than Allen. He has maintained a .913 efficiency this season with the New York Islanders. He has been extremely consistent throughout his career.

Is there a name on the list that would interest you if you were GM of the Montreal Canadiens?

At first glance, the two names that stand out, taking into account age and potential, would be Blackwood and Korpisalo. We could add Jarry as well, who could benefit greatly from a new team to revive his career.

Remember that by becoming free agents, it would not cost Kent Hughes anything in terms of acquisition, there is only a contract to offer, which could be interesting for the future of the organization.
