The Calgary Flames were looking to break a losing streak against the Columbus Blue Jackets at home. During the game in the second period AJ Greer, skating for a loose puck in the Blue Jackets zone. He collided with Jake Bean, the Blue Jackets defenseman and awkwardly goes into the boards. His ankles twists very awkwardly, as you can see in the clip below.

AJ Greer goes awkwardly into the boards and leaves the game.

Hopefully it's not as serious as it initially looked.

📽️: Sportsnet | NHL pic.twitter.com/t3gRLSneNd Robert Munnich (@RingOfFireCGY) January 26, 2024
Greer, 27, was claimed off of waivers by the Flames when he failed to make the Boston Bruins roster. While a Bruin he was an effective 4th liner for the team. He played in 61 games and scored 7 goals. What stood out most was his 114 penalty minutes.

A.J. Greer just suffered a horrific ankle injury you won't want to see the replay on.
Awful.
Expect him to be gone a long time, opening the door for yet another Wranglers call-up. Eric Francis (@EricFrancis) January 26, 2024
In 46 games this season Greer has scored 4 goals and 10 points in 47 games this season. A possible long-term injury is a scary thing for a 4th liner, as their position can be taken by others who pass him up on the depth chart. Hopefully it is not as serious as it looked.
