I have to admit, I am a die-hard Lane Hutson fan and I was particularly excited about his selection by the Habs, as I see him as the club's next quarterback for a good decade.

His start to the NCAA season has many people excited, as he is producing at a blistering rate that has never been seen in league history by a rookie defender in his first college season.

Of course, offensive play is not the only measure of talent, and while he is dominant offensively, Hutson plays very good hockey in his zone as well.

The Canadiens young sensation is attracting attention all over the hockey world, which earned him an interview with TVA Sports' excellent Anthony Martineau. It must be said that the comments made by the 62nd selection of the last draft has a lot of fans in Montreal excited and his confidence is obvious.

I think I can reach Cale Makar's level of play. Time will tell, but I feel I can offer the type of elements he brings." - Lane Hutson

Indeed, as Hutson so aptly put it, time will tell if he can ever become as big a player as Makar in the NHL, but you have to admit that he is brimming with confidence and that is a major element in helping him reach excellence one day.

Even his coach with the Boston University Terriers, Jay Pandolfo, has a hard time understanding the immense talent of the 18-year-old back, yet he has played nearly 900 games in the NHL.

Offensively, he's completely off the chart.

In practice, he does things that make us all shake our heads. Sometimes you look at him and you just laugh out loud because he's so spectacular.

He's passionate and always looking for ways to be better." - Jay Pandolfo

Let's face it, there's a much better chance of Hutson not becoming a Makar than the other way around, but you have to admit that the Habs have a gem to polish in their organization.

Hutson has a defenseman's profile that few other backs have in the NHL and he has enough pure talent to make his mark in the National League one day. All that's left is for him to be properly coached to reach his full potential.
