Most NHL scouts agree that Shane Wright needs more time to become a regular NHL player.

The Kraken recently claimed Eeli Tolvanen through waivers from the Nashville Predators, which may have put an end to Wright's NHL experience this season.

Several sources revealed that the Kraken's plan was to keep the fourth overall pick in the last draft with the club until the World Junior Championship, while making sure he didn't go past the nine-game mark to not run out the first year of his professional contract.

The goal was to give him valuable NHL experience, release him to Team Canada for the WJC, and send him back to the OHL after the tournament, coinciding with the opening of junior trades.

His current OHL team, the Kingston Frontenacs, have officially begun a rebuild. They traded the OHL's leading goal scorer, Dallas Stars prospect Francesco Arcuri, this week, and likely already have a deal in place for Wright if he is sent back to junior.

While this is almost certainly Wright's last year in junior, he would be the hottest rental in years. Any team that wants to win the cup this season will surely bet on Wright.

The Kraken will have avoided sending their young forward to a developmentally challenged team like Kingston, and will now have given him to a top contender when he is traded to the OHL upon his return from the WJC.I could see Wright joining the Saginaw Spirit, the London Knights, the Ottawa 67's, or the Owen Sound Attack.
