Cole Caufield is a rising star in the NHL and he seems to have found his groove. He's been scoring goals galore since Martin St. Louis took over and he doesn't look like he'll slow down this year. Number 22 is in the last year of his contract and he will not be eligible for salary arbitration next summer. Kent Hughes will have an important decision to make on Caufield's future with the team. Speaking to BPM Sports this morning, Jean-Charles Lajoie broke down the contract options and came up with a very interesting proposal. According to him, offering an eight-year contract at $25,000 less per year than Nick Suzuki would be a very good deal for the young winger.

He then added that a bridge contract would not be a good thing for the Habs. He even compared the situation to that of Auston Matthews in Toronto, who signed a five-year contract and will be free to sign wherever he wants, for whatever amount he wants afterwards. Let's hope that Kent Hughes will be able to convince Caufield and his agent to sign long-term with the Habs.
