For Habs fans and even players like David Savard, for example, it was quite a surprise to learn that Jeff Petry was back in Montreal.

For the man himself, it was a shock, literally. The Petry family never thought they'd be moving to Montreal again, which is why the Canadiens weren't on their no-trade list.

There are a few rumors about the defenseman's possible destinations, but one of them is becoming more and more solid.

The Dallas Stars have always been interested in Petry, and now that the price is right, they may well make an offer to Kent Hughes. Julie Petry is a local, which would be good for the family.

However, to make it work with the Stars' salary cap, Hughes will have to agree to take on a contract. According to several observers, Mason Marchment is on the market.

Marchment is a power forward who can produce on a regular basis, but his salary of 4.5 million per year for three more years is a bit of a stretch for the Stars.
