Jesperi Kotkaniemi really doesn't seem to have enjoyed the end of his stay in Montreal. It happened a few times that he sent spikes to the organization. This time, it's not really the case. But he still commented on his NHL debut. And according to him, playing in the National League at 18 was a mistake in his case. He should have spent at least one more season in Europe.

Here is an excerpt from the original text, which is taken over by our friends at Danslescoulisses.com

"Even Kotkaniemi said that in hindsight, he probably would have been better off going back to Finland instead of playing in the NHL just months after being drafted third overall. Things might have turned out differently.

- Jacob Stoller"

And it has to be said that he's absolutely right. It's still hard to understand why the Habs were so adamant about having Kotkaniemi in the National League in his first year with the team. And in the long run, it will most likely have hurt his development. A guy like Kaiden Guhle didn't make it to the NHL until he was 20 and he's one of the most mature guys for his age that we've had in Montreal. Nick Suzuki came in at 20 too, Cole Caufield at the very end of his 19 year.

Why did we want KK at 18?

Because he was a 3rd overall pick? Because we didn't want to let him go back to Europe?

This was poor management. Yes, KK has his share of blame to take. But so does the organization.
