As you already know, Joel Edmundson has been traded and will continue his career with the Washington Capitals.

Edmundson was well liked by his teammates, the organization and the fans, and the feeling was mutual. Edmundson never hid his love for the Canadiens, and he really wanted to stay with the team. In fact, his late father was a lifelong CH fan.

Although the trade is disappointing for him, "Eddy" is not at all surprised.

"Joel Edmundson says being traded by the Habs didn't surprise him: ''This summer, I had a feeling that something might be happening in the way the Montreal team was shaping up; they want to get young, they want to build something there...'"

It was at this point that the defender mentioned all the respect Kent Hughes has for his players, thanks to a much-appreciated transparency.

"Joel Edmundson says he appreciates that Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes was open and honest with him about how the Tricolore envisioned his future with the organization starting at the trade deadline.

Hughes told Edmundson they'd move him if the price was right."

Knowing this, Edmundson has still been an outstanding mentor to the organization's young defensemen. Let's hope his back problems are resolved for good and he can sign another contract after this season.
