In this 2023 trade deadline, Kent Hughes was much quieter than last year. It's certainly not for lack of work or trying, but the GM just didn't have as many quality tools to deal with as he did in 2022. Many fans are disappointed with the way things turned out, but you have to understand that in order to receive, you have to give. Speaking of giving, a trade could have been in place between Montreal and Tampa Bay, but Julien Brisebois simply missed the boat. It was Elliotte Friedman who stated that discussions between the Habs and the Lightning were well underway for a possible trade involving Joel Edmundson. However, Julien Brisebois would quickly come back down to earth, as he simply has nothing good to offer.

Since he took over, Brisebois has never hesitated to pay the price to acquire players who can help them win and it has paid off. However, Kent Hughes was obviously not happy with the offer he received for his veteran defenseman.
