Let's face it, one of Marc Bergevin's worst signings was Mike Hoffman. The forward was on a professional tryout contract, so nobody wanted him, and Bergevin signed him for 4.5 million a year. What a mistake!

Nevertheless, it's easy to say that now, when number 68 hasn't delivered the goods. It's mainly his involvement that's been called into question, not to say that it's non-existent. Kent Hughes has had enough.

According to informant Frank Seravalli, Hoffman is up for grabs on the trade market.

"They'd be willing to let him go for nothing, but don't want to add a draft pick to get rid of him. The other option would be to keep him until the trade deadline. Maybe his value would be better then." - Frank Seravalli

That's a major statement. Mike Hoffman versus future considerations, that's pretty telling as an offer.

Despite the low price tag, we'd be surprised to see him leave the Habs this season. Maybe at the trade deadline, if he has a decent season, but even then, his name is made in the league and other teams know what to expect from him.
