Kent Hughes has been a busy man in recent weeks. The Cole Caufield contract extension, the draft and the opening of free agency, among other things, have not been all plain sailing. The Canadiens' general manager has done a good job, but he still has a lot on his plate, including the signing of Alex Newhook. According to Marco D'Amico, this will happen very soon. He's going to sign a new contract very soon. - Marco D'Amico That's great news! What's more, Eric Engels has added to it by revealing the likely terms of the newcomer's contract, which would be funnily similar to Kirby Dach's. I estimate that Alex Newhook is looking for a contract that will pay him between $3 and $4 million per season. If the 22-year-old wants to bet on himself, he'll be looking for a shorter-term contract. Perhaps he sees his chance with the Canadiens as much greater than it would have been with Colorado, and thinks he can capitalize on it like Kirby Dach did last season. But I think Hughes would probably prefer to give him a contract similar to the four-year deal Dach signed last summer. It's a deal that would probably be the most advantageous for both parties. - Eric Engels So expect the announcement of Alex Newhook's signing very soon. With a deal similar to the one signed by Kirby Dach last year, it should go through quickly for Hughes and Newhook.

In our final Canadiens mailbag of the season, we address several key questions facing the team.

Let's dive right in.
