The Colorado Avalanche made the annoucement that their captain Gabriel Landeskog will miss the entire 2023-2024 season because he'll have to undergo an important surgery.

With Landeskog being ruled out for the entire upcoming season, there has been a cloud of uncertainty hanging over his career.

Significant injuries like this one often lead athletes to think about their life beyond the rink. Either it's about the potential impact on their quality of life post-career or the question of whether they can ever return to their former glory, many thinkgs come into consideration when you have to get that kind of life-altering surgery.

However, Landeskog seems to be maintaining a positive mindset about his situation.

When he was asked about the notion of retirement, he had this to say:

"I have not contemplated retirement, at all to be honest with you."

This is good news for the Avs fans, but let's not forget that circumstances can change dramatically within a year.
