The Habs and Kent Hughes will have plenty of room under the salary cap for the upcoming season, which is not the case for the Maple Leafs. Indeed, the successor to Kyle Dubas will have to do a lot to avoid losing one of the pillars of the offense. There is a solution to free up some of the cap space. Matt Murray has been injured (again) more often than not this year. With a salary exceeding 4 million, he no longer seems to be in the team's plans. Kent Hughes could do a Sean Monahan trade and get a good draft pick to take Murray's contract. The risk wouldn't be too great, given that Murray has only one year left on his contract and will want to prove himself in order to try to find work in the NHL afterwards. Also, Kent Hughes could trade Jake Allen for a prospect or draft pick at the same time, which would make this deal even more valuable.
