Mike Hoffman has by no means had a strong season. His contract has been a disaster from day 1, and his performances have been incredibly disappointing. The highly-touted goal-scorer has only scored one this season, while being a defensive liability whenever he is on the ice. It is surprising, thus, that he will be playing on the first line with Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki in tonight's game. This raises the possibility that Hoffman is being showcased to teams across the league, and that a trade could be coming soon. On the Puck And Roll podcast, a trade between Montreal and Edmonton was proposed. This trade would revolve around Hoffman, and Tyson Barrie, and would make sense for both teams. Both players have two years left on their contracts with an annual average value of $4.5-million, and both have lost the trust of their team. Hoffman being placed on the first line could be an indication that a trade is coming near -- it will be an interesting story to watch.
