It's hard to believe that a man caught up in a world of drugs and alcohol like Mike Ribeiro was could have had such a successful career. By his own admission, the former Canadiens forward mentioned that he sometimes had trouble standing up when he arrived at the arena. The bottom line is that Ribeiro was quite a hockey talent. In 1074 games in the Bettman circuit, he totaled 793 points. Imagine what he could have accomplished had he not had a drinking problem. The former number 71 of the Tricolore is unfortunately not at the end of his troubles. He is now fighting sexual assault charges, which has forced the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, his junior team, to respond. Here's what Huskies operations manager Gilles Berube had to say about the removal of Ribeiro's jersey from the heights of Glencore Arena: « We wanted to make sure we didn't have to take it down in the middle of the season. It's a preventive measure, so if there are no consequences, we hope to put the banner back up as soon as possible »

This means that Ribeiro's number 9 jersey will no longer be on display in Rouyn-Noranda, but if he were to be cleared of the current charges, the jersey could be returned to its place. Whatever the outcome, we don't see that often and it's quite a slap in the face for the Quebecer.
