The NHL boasts some of the best rivalries in all of sports, and in recent years, Tampa Bay and Toronto have built their own in the playoffs, and it's fair to say things aren't cooling down anytime soon.
Shots fired

In 2022-23, the Leafs finally overcame 19 years of disappointment and made it out of the first round, but one player who wasn't impressed was Mikhail Sergachev, who made it known in a recent interview. Sergachev: I don't want to put any pluses on Toronto now, they didn't deserve them. Interviewer: Why don't you want to put Toronto pluses? Sergachev: :Well, why? I don't think they deserve much. Interviewer: For the first time in 19 years, the first round was passed! Sergachev: Well done here, they went through the first round, but did not go further. So I don't see any reason to rejoice here. In short, the veteran D-man wasn't impressed with the Leafs as they were unable to go on and make a deep right, despite all the elation and momentum from their win over Tampa Bay.
2024, a rivalry renewed?
Given that these comments have come months after the fact, it's clear that there's still plenty of feeling in this rivalry, and after playing in the playoffs for three straight seasons, it wouldn't shock anyone if they did so again in 2023-24. Both teams are full of talent and expectations heading into the season, and with these comments and general desire to win all playing into it, these games should be must-see for all hockey fans this season.
