The 2022-2023 season was one to forget for the Calgary Flames, filled with frustration and ultimately culminating in a missed playoff appearance. This disappointment led to sweeping changes within the organization, including the departures of General Manager Brad Treliving and Head Coach Darryl Sutter.
Problems with Sutter
Rumors were rife throughout the season that Sutter and star player Jonathan Huberdeau were frequently at odds. One can just imagine how happy the player must have felt when finding out that his now former coach had left the team. But it's not just Huberdeau who seems to be looking forward to a new era in Calgary. Nazem Kadri, another key player for the Flames, was recently caught up in the excitement of change during an off-the-cuff interview. Kadri approached his first season with the Calgary Flames riding high on the momentum of a career-best performance the previous year. In the 2021-2022 season with the Colorado Avalanche, Kadri managed to net an impressive 28 goals and 87 points in just 71 games. But the transition to Calgary seemed to have a tempering effect on his performance. The 32-year-old's stat line regressed somewhat, falling more in line with his career averages. Kadri closed out his first season with the Flames posting 24 goals and 56 points. While underwhelming compared to his previous season's explosive success, it was a solid contribution to the team nonetheless. Kadri took part in a celebrity ball hockey game at the Nation Bank Open tennis tournament, and was asked about the shake-up in the Flames' organization. The Calgary player had no problem making his views known:
Nazem Kadri speaks up
I think a lot of guys on the team are ready to kind of play to their potential. For whatever reason, we got a little restricted last year, so I'm looking forward to a clean slate and starting the year off strong.

As seen on - Kadri Gives A Parting Shot To Former Coach
