The Oilers chose Jack Campbell in their quest for a nuber one goaltender last year and the decision aged poorly.

In a recent revelation, Ken Holland, the Oilers' General Manager, dropped news that left many fans and commentators in shock.

Holland Speaks on Campbell

The GM announced that the Oilers would kick off the season with the same defensive lineup and goaltenders that were displayed in the previous playoffs.

"We're going to start with the seven defensemen who finished last year. The goalies are set."

Eternal Number Two?

Prior to his tenure with the Oilers, Campbell had three impressive seasons with the Maple Leafs. However, his journey with the Oilers hasn't been a bed of roses. The previous season was particularly tough for him.

He appeared in 36 games, holding a record of 21-9-4, but with a subpar save percentage of 0.888 and a goals-against average of 3.41.

While his overall record may not look bleak, a significant portion of his success was due to playing alongside the phenomenal Connor McDavid. But his SV% and GAA figures aren't lying.

This paved the way for the promising Stuart Skinner to step up as the Oilers' number one goaltender.

With a record from 50 games standing at 29-14-5, and boasting a .914 SV% and a 2.73 GAA, Skinner's performance was commendable.

Unless there are unexpected turn of events at the training camp, with Skinner faltering and Campbell stepping up his game, it seems Campbell is set to continue as the Oilers' backup goalie for the forthcoming season.
