A little less than a year later, the Montreal Canadiens' 2022 draft evaluation already looks very promising. Among its first selections in this draft, the organization has added several players with great potential to play in the NHL one day, and even to have a considerable impact in the league. We can think of Juraj Slafkovsky, but also Lane Hutson, Owen Beck and Filip Mesar. However, there is another Tricolore selection that is developing at a staggering rate, and that is the 92nd pick in this draft, Swedish defenseman Adam Engstrom. He is currently playing in the best European league, the SHL, and is a defensive stalwart for his Rogle BK team. He started the year in junior, where he destroyed everything with four goals and 13 points in only seven games. He was then recalled by his professional club, starting at the bottom of the lineup, to playing a key role offensively for his team. He finished the season with six goals and 16 points in 43 games, despite very little average playing time. Now in the playoffs, Engstrom has become the spark plug for his team as he leads Rogle SK in goals and points with three goals and two assists in eight games. He is a defenseman and only 19 years old.

If he continues his development like this, he could definitely become a regular NHL defenseman one day. His game vision, hockey intelligence and mobility on the ice make him a very interesting back for the future of the Habs' blue line. Like Lane Hutson at #62 in the draft, he could become another hidden gem of the draft for the CH. Here is some offensive footage to give you an idea of his abilities (number 56):
