NHL players were polled on a variety of issues anonymously, and many had several negative and positive things to say about many Canadian teams.

Nobody likes their job every day, and yes, that also includes millionaires who get to play hockey.

Hang around NHL dressing rooms long enough, and players will grumble about coaches, teammates, arenas, city life (or lack of it), escrow, and the grind of the schedule.

In an effort to allow players to speak their minds, 'The Athletic' polled 111 NHLers on a range of topics, providing anonymity so that they would be truthful.

Winnipeg is the city that most players have on their no-trade list

Which team leads no-trade lists? Tough luck, Winnipeg. Even though they're leading the standings and have one of the most electric game environments in the league, the Jets still rank No. 1 in this category, year after year.

«There's not much to do out there,» one player said. «It's f-ing cold. I haven't heard a guy go to Winnipeg and be like, 'This is going to be my forever home.'»

"Nothing to do, bad food, freezing,» another said.

Even after Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele signed long-term, players still exercise caution. One Jet leaped to his city's defense but did state that the ride from the airport to downtown wasn't exactly picturesque.

«I remember when I first did it, it was underwhelming. There are parts of the city that are great, but you don't see that (as a visiting player). I always wish that they'd stay down at the Forks or somewhere like that. I don't think that hotel meets the criteria for the league, but it would be better than staying downtown."

Some chose to steer clear of all seven Canadian teams because of weather, taxes, and media scrutiny, with Calgary coming in at No. 4 on that list and Ottawa at No.5.

"High taxes, the organization hasn't been that strong recently,» another player said.

Vancouver also tied for 8th place in the no-trade category, with 1.22% of players having that city on their no-trade list.

Edmonton has one of the best visiting team facilities

Best visiting team facilities? Newer buildings such as Utah's Delta Center, Detroit's Little Caesars Arena, Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena, Edmonton's Rogers Place, Vegas' T-Mobile Arena, and the Islanders' UBS Arena establish the benchmark.

"Really, any of the new rinks,» one player said.

"All of the newer buildings are great,» another said.

Calgary has one of the worst facilities

Worst facilities? Calgary's Saddledome ranks up there. One player said it in the clearest way possible.

"I hate to say it because I love playing there. But the setup is just not cool.".

Don't worry fans of Canadian teams, it's not all hate towards your country and teams, as many American teams also were on lists for negative reasons.

At the end of the day, it comes down to on-ice performance, and the majority of Canadian teams have been doing just fine this season.
